Coming-of-Age Pre-Ceremony Photos in Asakusa: Furisode Rental and Shoot Costs

On Coming-of-Age Day you are chasing the clock from the moment you get up. That is why more people are choosing to shoot on a separate day, without the rush.
Why shoot in Asakusa
Asakusa’s strength is that you are not limited to a studio. You can shoot outdoors against genuinely Japanese backdrops such as Sensoji and Sumida Park. HANAYAKA’s clear-day furisode (long-sleeved formal kimono) photo plan (¥49,500, tax included) includes a full deluxe furisode outfit, make-up, hair styling, an hour of shooting around Sensoji and at least 100 images.
If you only want to rent the furisode
If you are taking the photos yourselves, the deluxe furisode plan starts at ¥25,500 (tax included). Our top-end premium furisode (¥38,500) is made to order with gold and silver thread. See the furisode line-up on our pricing plans.
The best seasons for a pre-ceremony shoot, and how the diary fills
There are two busy periods. Autumn (October to November) has settled weather and falls two or three months before the ceremony, which is good timing for preparation. Spring (March to April) gives you cherry blossom backdrops and is the most competitive time of the year. Blossom weekends fill up weeks ahead, every year.
The quiet opportunity is a weekday morning. There are fewer tourists, so hardly anyone ends up in the frame even inside the Sensoji grounds. Photographer and dresser slots are easier to get too. It works out well on every count.
How the day runs, from getting ready to delivery
1. Arrive and choose your furisode (30 minutes). 2. Dressing (40 minutes). 3. Hair and make-up (40 minutes). 4. An hour shooting at Sensoji and nearby. 5. Delivery via Google Drive, at least 100 images with 10 retouched shots. About three hours in total.
We provide props for the shoot such as Japanese parasols and folding fans. If there is something you want to bring yourself, a keepsake or fan merchandise, please do. The photos with some personality in them are the ones that are fun to look back on.
Options for using your mother’s furisode
Wearing your mother’s furisode, what people call mama-furi, is a lovely choice too. In that case you can book us for dressing, hair and make-up and the shoot only. Swapping just the obi (sash) and accessories for something current keeps the memory and freshens up the photos. Give us a call to talk it through.
